10 Years and Thriving

Egressive is 10 years old today! Who would've thought that NZ limited liability company CH/924616, founded on the idea that open source software was a viable option for businesses in New Zealand would be not only still be around, but would be thriving a decade later.

It would be fair to say that Egressive was probably a bit ahead of its time in recognising the business opportunity for providing commercial open source IT support services - most of our sales in the first few years required substantial customer education campaigns - but the market seems to have caught on in a big way.

Things have certainly picked up in the past 18 months. Customers are coming to us, we're no longer having to seek them out - we don't really have time for marketing, nor do we need to. Our tight-knit team is in the very lucky position of being able to pick and choose the work that aligns best with our core capabilities, interests, and principles. We're also very lucky to have a great group of customer organisations who help to make our work very satisfying.

Looking forward, Egressive is focused on

  • creating a well considered set of packaged services and solutions that make adopting open source software infrastructure a doddle for businesses,
  • creating web services that allow our customers to utilise open source software on our infrastructure with minimal up front investment,
  • increasing the transparency of our already open business practices to our customers, so that they can easily see where they stand at any time,
  • increasing our customer service levels and decreasing our response times as we meet the challenges of increasing demand.

The future will undoubtedly bring us many challenges, but for the moment, we're happily confident that we're in the right place at the right time - and we've got a (friendly open source) tiger by the tail.

It's probably worth pointing out that Egressive celebrates it's decade birthday within a few days of another open source company's tenth: Google...
