Sponsorship
Egressive occasionally provides hosting and even development services for what we consider to be worthy causes. They are usually non-profit organisations or individuals in whom we have an interest, or sites we just think are doing a bang-up job. Sponsorship is by invitation only.
A Selection of Sponsored Sites
NZ Knowledge Management Network - a non-profit community of practice dedicated to providing opportunities for professionals from different industries to share their interest, knowledge and experiences in Knowledge Management. We built this site and provide ongoing maintenance and hosting in conjunction with NZKM's Julian Carver. Thanks to Josh Campbell of ZYPE (now working closely with Egressive) for his superb design.
NZ Open Source Society - New Zealand's open source advocacy organisation. Egressive believes that the efforts of the NZOSS are vital to the future of the NZ Information Technology industry. The many energetic and dedicated people making up the Society have already - unbeknown to most people - made a huge contribution to the intellectual and technological welfare of all kiwis by questioning government and international corporate IT company behaviour in NZ. Egressive provides development and hosting services for the NZOSS, and the theme is courtesy of the good people at Catalyst IT in Wellington.
SPOKES - Christchurch's Cycle Advocacy organisation. Given that nearly all of us at Egressive cycle actively and many commute to work each day by bicycle (or unicycle), we take a strong interest in raising awareness among Christchurch's famously cycle-oblivious drivers and oblivious cyclists alike. We built this site with Drupal with the intention of it being a model for cycling advocacy organisations throughout New Zealand.
World Sweet World magazine - a sustainable do-it-yourself crafts magazine created by Egressive friends in Wellington: Thomas Schickedanz and Hannah Gardiner. Egressive provides sponsored web and email hosting.
"Rivers" NZ Canoe Association site - news/reference/community site for NZ paddlers (river and sea kayaks, canadian canoes, etc.) with an extensive image gallery and document repository.
Ultimate players association - a community site featuring news, pictures, tournament results and announcements, educational and reference materials for NZ Ultimate frisbee players - a fine bunch of people if ever there was one. This site includes a host of sub-sites representing regional and university Ultimate clubs - have a fossick on the main site to find them. Here, for example, is a link to the Canterbury Flyers club page.
HepCatSwing - At least one of Egressive's number is known to participate in this most enjoyable resurgent movement: swing dancing. Swing is a musical form - a distinct branch of jazz that originated in American in the 1930s. Black Americans morphed the various dance influences of the day - the 20s Charleston and tap dancing among others - into dynamic steps like the Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, and Balboa which in turn have formed the basis for most modern Hip Hop dance. Swing dancing was brought to Christchurch by the James family - Jeff, Debi, Becky, and Sarah, and now critical mass has been achieved and a fully-fledged community has emerged...
Team Solar Fern - An ambitious Canterbury-based effort to build a solar powered car to compete in the The Panasonic World Solar Challenge, a race to cross the Australian outback from Darwin to Adelaide, a distance of over 3000km (note - this site is not yet live as solarfern.com).
Effusion Group - The Effusion Group is a Christchurch, NZ-based open source business cluster. Most of us are located on the top floor of the heritage art deco building, Kenton Chambers, Hereford St in the Central Business District. Egressive is one of the 4 founding businesses of the cluster, which was started in 2002. This drupal-based site, built, maintained, and hosted by Egressive (with design by Josh Campbell of ZYPE) aggregates information from the websites of many of the Effusion Group member companies.
